2006 Honda EX-V6 Deck Lid Spoiler Install

IMPORTANT!

Have a vacuum close by, and constantly clean up the drill bit shavings!  Even if you just drag your arm or a cloth over one of these and you will have a hell of a scratch!

Here's the project start.  I removed the plate
because the reflection is bad on camera exposure.
The reflections still tended to give a bad exposure.
The first line of business is to remove the trunk
liner on the EX-V6.  Each of these clips has
 to be removed.
Don't forget these!

The instructions that come with the Deck Spoiler
are not correct.  It shows the clips for the '05
Sedan.  The '06 have these newer types of clips.
I just used my fingernails to pull the centers out
then remove the clips.
This is what the clip looks like removed.
They are all this way but the two just above
the hinge (outermost arrows in the previous
photos).
I have a tool I got years ago to remove
body clips.  I'm sure you can find
something to remove these.

Just wedge something under it and pull it out. The next items of business is to put the
template on the trunk for drilling the holes.
Use masking tape to hold it down.
I don't like the new Mylar or Plastic
(whatever it is) Template.  It has such a
curl to it it is hard to work with.  Measure
from the forward lip of the trunk to the
holes to confirm alignment.

I marked the holes with a Sharpie pen, then
used a Center Punch to make a starting
point for the drill.  Otherwise the
bit will want to "Walk"
I wrapped the bits according to the
instructions so as not to drill too deep, but
to be honest, there was nothing under there
close enough to be caught by the bit.
Drill in steps according to the instructions.
all holes start with a 3mm bit, and work up
from there.  The outer holes go 3mm, 6mm
8mm.  The inside holes go 3mm, 8mm, 11mm.

After all the holes are drilled, debur them
as best you can.
I primed the holes and used touch-up paint.
You are instructed to use just the paint,
so it's up to you.  Use plenty!  it will not
be seen.  After it dried I waxed it well.
Per instructions, I started the adhesive strips
and left them hang out until the spoiler was
positioned.  I lightly attached the bolts and
got the spoiler in position.  I then pulled the
strips out, and pressed the spoiler in place
for a few seconds.  Then tighten the bolts as
per the instructions.

A few notes!

I did not use the springs that came with it.  As of now the trunk opens the same as before the spoiler install.  It also came with rubber blocks to extend the ones already on the trunk to cushion it when it shuts.  The one on the '06 is already longer than the '05 was.  If installed, I would have to cut the liner too thin.  I think that this, like the clips shown, are from the '05.  I will keep the blocks and springs and use then if needed.  Maybe over time the springs will weaken, and I will have them to install.

Here are multiple photos of the finished job.  I'll get some outside shots soon!
